Art Exhibit to Feature Paintings by Toney, Native of Gloversville
"... Among his works is one entitled 'Four Corners,' which depicts the four corners of Gloversville's downtown business district where Fulton and Main Streets meet. This painting was first exhibited in 1946 at the Riverside Museum. American painter Joseph Soloman wrote of the painting, '.......a remarkable canvas by Anthony Toney depicting a typical main street peopled with symbols and scenes of bigotry and persecution, apathy and despair....
The artist told me that he was trying to render the terrifying apathy many GI's meet on their return home.' "
