"Dog Play" I began this body of work in the summer of 2001. For years I'd been going to Pt. Isabel Dog Park and, as it became a more integral part of my social life I began to make paintings of its dog and human denizens. My first paintings were concerned with the dog/human/landscape interaction. As the series has progressed the human presence has dropped out, leaving the dogs free to wander in the landscape alone. These paintings are about dogs as a part of nature, especially that state of pure fierce joy they seem to possess when left free to play and explore unleashed. They are about experiencing a state of being and not symbolic of anything in particular. |
