ARTIST STATEMENT I began my artistic reawakening by studying watercolor and oils in sunny Puerto Vallarta Mexico - a warm and cheerful spot that has become my yearly winter retreat. What inspires me most is color, design and value contrasts. I am attracted by abstract organic patterns found in nature - the graceful rounded shapes of rivers and streams or plant forms, silhouettes of figures, aerial views of landscapes - or by vibrant scenes encountered on my foreign travels. And I am drawn to rich color combinations - bright tropical hues like those I might find in a lively market or quaint village panorama or even in the ornamental design of a tribal costume. EDUCATION:
BA (1966 ) MSW (1969) from UC Berkeley - art study at Laney College, Merritt College (1998 to present)
BACKGROUND: Born in Florida in 1944 but lived since 1949 in California. Worked a few years as a social worker and retired in 1994 after 21 years as a juvenile probation officer in Contra Costa county. Traveled extensively in Central America, Africa and Asia.
