Amusement Architecture Series This current body of work reflects on the American skill of engineering, designing and building enormous complexes for entertainment. Two of the oldest parks, Coney Island and Santa Cruz Board walk draw on a time before the “Theme” Park. The paintings are devoid of people, but they are represented within the chaos of the abstract backgrounds. The subject is the engineering, design and the quiet beauty of the still machines of amusement parks and the stories they evoke. The engineered scaffolding of roller coasters reveals the beauty of the bones in architecture. This is the source of inspiration for the artist’s use of laser cut stencils of roller coasters, grids and guides left in the painting showing the building process as part of the overall composition.
