Paola Coda's work mystifies the lines between photography and painting. Her abstracts focus on patterns and textures created by rocks, concrete and hard surfaces, or the balance and tension between different materials. Some photographs are manipulated until the original object is unrecognizable, some printed on canvas and retouched in acrylics.
Color photograph of a street in a medieval town in Italy. On the facade of a brick and stucco building, open windows with green shutters; from one of them peeks out a statue of a naked woman, half hidden by a curtain, with an unknowable expression on her face. It's a mysterious, intriguing photograph that always attracts attention.
