CAROLE FITZGERALD, grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota, known for its lovely scenery. Early influences instilled a lifelong passion to explore landscapes, including California, Colorado, Oregon, France, and Japan. She now lives and works in Northern California.
The California state flower, the Poppy, peppers our rolling hills thoughout the state each Spring and in the Sierras in the Summer. Revered by the early American Tribes, legend has it that the flower petals were placed over the eyelids of a dead relative. My legend is that, I love to lay on the grassy hillsides of California and look at the sunlight passing through the petals. This painting gives the viewer the opportunity to see this phenomenon.
