Bonanza presents That's Funny

Saturday, July 20, 6:00pm-7:30pm, San Francisco

McEvoy Foundation for the Arts (MFA) presents a performance with multi-disciplinary art collective Bonanza. Emceed by Bonanza's Conrad Guevara, Lindsay Tully, and Lana Williams, "That's Funny" invites artists and comedians to perform sets of comedic material as a celebration of the medium's potential for posturing and resilience. With humor and satire informing much of the collective's practice in installation, film, and fashion, Bonanza often use their projects as a platform for others. The artists have previously staged iterations of "That's Funny" at the Walter McBean Gallery at the San Francisco Art Institute, Gallery 16 in San Francisco, and Interface Gallery in Oakland. MFA presents this free edition of the performance in conjunction with its summer exhibition 'What is an edition, anyway?' and the 2019 San Francisco Art Book Fair.

Part of "Performance as Edition," curated by visual artist Jonn Herschend for the McEvoy Foundation for the Arts' exhibition 'What is an edition, anyway?' on view May 24 - September 7, 2019. This series acknowledges performance's implicit conundrum between poles of repetitive and unique actions. Original, silkscreened posters, designed by Herschend and THE THING Quarterly co-founder Will Rogan, are released at each event. Also curated by Herschend is the upcoming "Score for the Day Before," an audiovisual concert by LA-based punk band No Age, on Saturday, September 7, 2019.

'What is an edition, anyway?' surveys historical practices of creating and distributing editions, presenting an array of limited-edition artist's books, prints, album covers, original artworks, and other objects from the McEvoy Family Collection and the collection of Thomas Cvikota. Newly commissioned projects by Enrique Chagoya, Daniel Clowes, Ala Ebtekar, Jonn Herschend, Stephanie Syjuco, and Hank Willis Thomas respond to these traditions through photography, performance, illustration, and installation.
