In the exhibition CONTAINER PIECES, artists Catherine Sherman and Todd Young explore the messages we send and receive, how we contain ourselves and how we express the inner voices that inform and guide us.

Using a variety of fabric collected with intention, Catherine Sherman creates quilted artwork improvisational, crafting familiar geometries with a unique palette to express stories from many times and places. Her Texas roots inform the stories she tells through her quilts. Founder of The Piece Movement, Catherine also leads community art making events.

Todd Young makes fine art with crafts as a medium. His work in a variety of medium and up cycled materials is whimsical, inventive and inspired. Also known as The Gate Guy, his work is always on view on his Hayes Valley security gate (https://www.facebook.com/ThegateguySF/).

Together, they weave together an inventive and insightful look into how we contain and piece together messages and images that are both introspective and expansive, reframing how we look at ourselves and others.
