Central Market Community Benefit District presents:
2 Blocks of Art - art walk & block party
Friday, October 13, 5:00pm-9:00pm, San Francisco
This free event will bring over 75 artists in some 25 locations on two blocks, 6th Street from Market to Howard Streets. The art walk will feature a range of art exhibits and live performances in galleries, bars, restaurants, a laundromat, coffee shops and a number of other storefronts. With many arts galleries and venues in the area, the event also includes participation from established galleries such as 1AM, Luggage Store, Sketchpad and SF Camerawork.
New this year will be the premiere of a large-scale lighting art projection on the back of 16-story high 995 Market Street, coupled with the closure of Jessie Street and the parking lane on the west side of 6th Street from Market to Mission Street to provide for a viewing area. Attendees can enjoy the lighting art projection when it starts, shortly after 7 p.m., until 9 p.m. The Jessie block closure will feature a stage for announcements and musical performances. The theme for the projection artwork is 6th Street Superheroes: real local people transformed by professional illustrators into fantastic characters. The illustrators selected for this project will record a full video of their sketches, which will then be edited into a time-lapsed video of the work. In addition, attendees will have a chance to have their photo taken, which will be superimposed onto a fantastical background and may be projected as part of an interactive feature of the installation.
2 Blocks of Art will also bring 'Sketch the Block' back for a 2nd year. Co-produced with Sketchpad Gallery, this one-night sketch-con hosts artists in the fields of visual concept, comic books, and video games, offering affordable and accessible art to all.
The event also includes outdoor music and dance, local restaurants, bars, theaters and nightclubs featuring a variety of food, drink and entertainment specials for even more to enjoy.
