Hi, I’m Maria Rosaria D’Alessio, born in Bedford, UK in 1954, and from a very early age I developed a strong a strong interest & a passion for color, shape and form. At the age of only five I began to show a vivid talent for drawing in particular and, have since always continued in a search to find my own particular expressive form in painting and drawing.
I studied Dress Design at Luton College, of Art & Technology, culminating in an L.S.I.A.D. (Licensors of Industrial Artists & Designers) examination at the London Academy in 1976.
My works, sometimes figurative, sometimes conceptual or abstract, can be inspired by a simple word, a phrase or a thought, by a landscape or a particular colour, or an atmosphere, & sometimes by a dream.
My subjects may tell a story or sometimes not, they may make a statement or they simply are! I use a variety of mediums, predominantly watercolor or gouache and oil or acrylics on canvas as well as charcoal & pencil drawings & sometimes use mixed mediums together, I also prepare limestone plaster anchored onto masonite to replicate the “a fresco” technique, painting on wet plaster with natural pigments. |
