STATEMENT

Beryl Landau calls her work "symbolic landscape". The acrylic paintings depict geographical places but evoke inner feelings. Each landscape draws the viewer into a particular space and mood. Landau's clear colors range from high contrasts to subtle gradations - The subjects vary from familiar California scenes to more exotic locations from Landau T s travels. Some of the images are close-ups while others show more farsighted views. The canvases are squares ranging from 20 in. to 6 ft.

Beryl Landau has been living in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years. She received Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from San Francisco Art Institute. Her teachers included Richard Diebenkorn, Elmer Bischoff and Joan Brown. She has been teaching art over the years to both adults and children.

Beryl Landau was born in New York City. As a child she attended the People's Art Center at the Museum of Modern Art and later at the High School of Music and Art. Her family moved to Santa Monica, California when she was fifteen. Soon after she settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. She now lives with her husband and son in San Francisco where she has been painting and teaching art for over twenty years.
