Born in New York City, and growing up in San Francisco, Susan Tibbon demonstrated a proclivity for drawing from a very early age. As a teenager, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the Rhode Island School of Design. She received her B.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute and holds a teaching credential from San Francisco State University.
Introduced to oil painting at the age of 15 by her father, a painter and actor, she has continued to expand the scope of her work to include paintings on silk, natural objects like the egg shells shown here, wood, and canvas. Her work conveys familiar flora, fauna and inanimate objects throught a refinement of imagery rather than alteration. Ms. Tibbon's work extends beyond the subconscious province of surrealism and approaches the visionary.
Ms. Tibbon's work is represented in the permanent collection at the University of California at Santa Cruz, as well as numerous private collections. She and her works have been featured in publications including Harper's Bazaar, The San Francisco Chronicle, and Computer Artist Magazine, as well as such national television shows as Hour Magazine and Evening Magazine. She has also created images for advertising and collateral pieces in the U.S. and Europe.
The U.S. Air Force Academy and Earth Watch hosted Ms. Tibbon's interdisciplinary lecture and demonstration series in 2000 and 2002.
In 2001 and 2005 Ms. Tibbon completed month long printmaking fellowships at the Centrum voor Grafick Frans Masereel in Belgium.
Ms Tibbon has shown at numerous venues throughout the world. Recent venues include The De Young Museum and the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, Ca.
Ms. Tibbon's work is represented by Atelier Posey et Susan in San Francisco. Inquiries may be directed to the Atelier at (415) 776- 6367
