Fernando Marti is a printmaker, installation artist, community architect, writer, and activist. He was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and has made his home in San Francisco since 1992. Fernando's art explores the clash of the Third World in the heart of Empire, and the tension between inhabiting place vs. the urge to build something transformative. His current public projects and altar ofrendas deal with the creation and claiming of place and identity within local histories of resistance. Fernando has been deeply connected with neighborhood struggles in San Francisco's Mission District since the mid-90s, creating art for and with many local organizations. He is a member of the SF Print Collective and Just Seeds Artists Cooperative, and practices community architecture with the nonprofit Asian Neighborhood Design.
