	My name is Jo Dawkins. I live and work in Detroit, Michigan. I spent most of my life teaching in one form or another.My aunt who is 87 encouraged me to paint. I found tremdous strength in her and I thank God for the experience of finding family.

The Color Pink is an abstract depiction of domestic violence.When I was a child a woman I didn't know died in her house running from her husband. They lived in a pink house. I didn't know what it meant but I tried to comfort my cousin who told me this story. I liked the color pink but some where it was lost. This painting is both full of bold color and great texture. I found each form becoming as I added layers of paint. In a sense there is sculpturing yet it remains a painted image.
