(This painting was inspired by music from the ballet "Daphins and Chloe" by Maurice Ravel.)
The artist, seeking escape from daily strife in fond memories of Childhood, is transported to the home of his youth, the landscape having been altered with comforting images of his ethnic Greek upbringing. But he sees, now with adult eyes, that within this idyllic setting the choice between the material/hedonistic and spiritual paths causing him conflict were laid out early on, the influences of his agnostic father and religious mother.
