'Eye of Truth' is a mixed-media piece that incorporates the use of broken musical instruments as canvas, frame or both.
The instrument is treated, repaired and prepared so it can be used as a canvas or as a frame, or as elements of both, depending on the subject of the work.
In this case, a broken and smashed guitar was used as a canvas.
'Eye of Truth...' relates to the legacy of the African-American woman and how she has become provider, glue, powerhouse, womb, widow, teacher, superwoman, surrogate father, doctor, chef, orator, disciplinary agent, cheerleader and soothsayer all the while this western culture has seen fit to strip her of her womanhood, her passion, her ability love and be loved, and of her other half - in order to control and berate all that she has and is...
This work is her voice, through the din on noise directed at her from any number of agents, groups, agencies, politicians, citizen action groups, companies, people of other cultures and even her own people. This screams a small part of her passions, her power and her truth.
