1992 to Present
In this painting, the details of the image have been reduced to flat planes, and depicted by a unique color pattern. The colors selected are intrinsic to their placement on the figure, and the dramatic raked light the appears to be glancing off the side of the face. The paint is used in a thick and deliberate manner to emphasize the origins of the subject matter. The subject of Van Gogh is used as an easily recognizable symbol of artistic eccentricity, failure/success, and genius.
