I use books as a platform to explore the boundaries of my visual and philosophical expression - I especially like being able to carve into and out of the form - the words culled from the text become an integral part of the the process - I am drawn to the trans-formative nature of re-presenting the book in a new context.
This is an altered book. I am taking a used book and cutting into it and adding collage elements including paper and tape lift transfers of found images. Lastly, I attach a battery operated clock mechanism yet with only the second hand. One aspect of the series is about the passing of time as opposed to the measuring of time. In this piece, the feather is the "second hand" and rotates.
Some of the materials used in addition to the books themselves: thread, hemp string, mirrors, nails, paper, clock mechanism & second hands, acrylic paint, found images, archival adhesive, acrylic gel and matte medium
