Limited edition archival quality digital print. Image size 13" x 13" printed on 17" x 22" Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl 285 gsm paper.
This is a view of a Veterans Memorial in Fort Garland, Colorado. The image has been retouched to remove the stand that the plane was sitting upon in order to create the illusion that the plane was actually flying overhead at that particular moment. The sun, which was in the west, is hidden behind the right wing fuel tank and lends a supernal illumination to the animated image of the plane.
The actual plane that is displayed is a T-33, the two-seater trainer version of an F-80, one of the first fighter jets to be deployed by the US Air Force. My father flew and died in one of these planes in the Colorado Air National Guard in 1956.
This is my homage to his memory, a flying spirit, eternally free.
