  Description

Dare I say that this is the first painting of San Fransisco that doesn't depict the Golden Gate Bridge in the painting at all! Anyway, every year I travel to San Fransisco with a group of friends of mine. Most years, I have a lot of trouble getting there; My plane is delayed or canceled or I get there just fine but I get terribly lost. In 2002, we just arrived in San Fransisco, and were traveling north on highway 101. The traffic was stop-and-go. I was telling everyone in the car my travel woes when I noticed a man in the lane next to us practicing the trumpet while he was driving. I turned to my friend, Ann, and said look at that man he is practicing while driving. She rolled down the window and cupped her ear. The man started to laugh and rolled down his and he stuck out his trumpet, which was barely the size of his hand, and played the most beautiful rendition of "I left my heart in San Fransisco." I just remember how great he sounded for having the smallest trumpet I had ever seen. His tone, vibrato and the volume were perfect! The whole trip that weekend it was as if I was walking on air! Only in San Fransisco would a man perform while driving down the interstate in rush hour traffic.
