Daedalus designed the Labyrinth to house the Minotaur for King Minos of Crete. Minos determined to murder its inventor and his son to keep its secret. Daedalus learned of this cruel plan, and fashioned wings of feathers and wax for himself and his son so they could fly to safety. Despite his father's warning, Icarus flew too high and too near the sun; the wax in his wings melted, they fell to pieces, and he into the sea.
