The base of the frame is wood which I shape, sand, and apply layers of glue gesso to. This rounds off the edges and produces a softer hand-worked look. The check pattern is produced using a lime plaster with integrated pigment. This plaster can be burnished to a sheen that resembles polished stone. This process is much like the fresco process in that the pigment becomes calcified into the mineral matrix.
