Grid 021

The concern of my painting is human relation, with the format of a grid providing grammar for “visual conversations” and where colors function to reflect verbal and energetic exchange. My hope, with all my work, is to open inquiry around the relationship of neighboring, yet disparate, parts.

This piece is formed with nine 8" squares of birch plywood, originally painted as an intact 24" grid, and mounted with Velcro as a grouping onto one plywood base. The intent is that the nine individual segments can each rotate, thus distorting the original grid and establishing a sense of questionable coherence. The concept plays on the simple plastic tile puzzles, where one section is missing and the order found through rearrangement, yet in this piece all parts are intact.
