The Blow Up Lab is a full-service, digital photo and graphics business located near downtown San Francisco but virtually available to anyone with Internet access. Owned and operated by Frank McGrath since 1977, the Lab was the first in the city to convert from traditional, chemical photo processing to 100% digital in January 2000.

In the early 1990's The Blow Up Lab was asked to consult with programmers developing new photo graphics software that became Photoshop 1.0. In the mid 90's The Blow Up Lab became a developer for Hewlett Packard's large-format ink-jet printers.

Always experimenting and following technological advancements, The Blow Up Lab prides itself on its' ability to offer clients custom, state-of-the-art digital production.

The Blow Up Lab produces fine art prints and photographs that are suitable for gallery exhibitions and sales to collectors. Our highest quality Giclée (zhee-'clay) art prints are printed on acid-free, heavy rag papers or canvas. Our Epson and Hewlett Packard 6-color pigment based ink systems are rated to last approximately 75 to 200 years against fading, depending on the ink and paper combination.

Similarly, black & white photographs can be reproduced using our Piezography® monochromatic printers. To date, the highest quality grey scale digital process available. The "Quad-tone" inks create dynamic, smooth, dot less gradations and are rated to last 200 years.
